The November issue of The College Mathematics Journal is a special theme issue supporting the Mathematics of Planet Earth initiative, MPE 2013. The issue is freely available to all.
Of special interest is a guest editorial by Mary Lou Zeeman (Bowdoin College). It is a call to arms for the mathematics community to identify and engage, at a deeply intellectual level, with the mathematical challenges associated with decision making for sustainability.
In the article, Zeeman draws an analogy with mathematical biology, to illustrate the way mathematics and biology can enrich each other when we make the effort to build and facilitate communication between them.
