Professor Christopher K.R.T. Jones — Recipient of the 2020 MPE Prize


Professor Chris Jones is the Bill Guthridge Distinguished Professor in Mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Director of the Mathematics and Climate Research Network (MCRN). The 2020 MPE Prize recognizes Professor Jones for his many significant contributions to climate science and the mathematics of planet Earth.

POSTER COMPETITION FOR AGES 11-19

Inspired by Mathematics of Planet Earth 2013, the Institute of Mathematics and it’s Applications with the Citi Money Gallery at the British Museum have launched a poster competition to secondary schools to design a currency for Earth.

The deadline is January 15, 2014.

COMPETITION FOR AN OPEN SOURCE EXHIBITION OF VIRTUAL MODULES

This competition to design virtual or physical museum-quality exhibits (modules) on the theme of Mathematics of Planet Earth has ended. (Competition description and rules). The winners of the competition were announced at the MPE Day at UNESCO in Paris on March 5 2013.

CONCOURS 2013 DE L’APMEP Île-de-France

Le concours 2013, ouvert aux classes et groupes d’élèves de tous niveaux scolaires, portera sur Mathématiques de la planète Terre. Les contributions auront la forme d’un journal de 4 pages. La date limite est 31 mars 2013. Les inscriptions seront ouvertes dès le mois d’octobre 2012.

A NEW INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OF MPE EXHIBITION MODULES. Deadline: June 30, 2017

A new international competition for MPE exhibition modules was launched in Dakar at the Next Einstein Forum on March 10 2016. This second international competition, jointly organized by IMAGINARY, UNESCO International Basic Sciences Programme (IBSP), the International Mathematical Union (IMU) and the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI), will enrich the MPE exhibition with new modules, aiming to address challenges in Africa and other regions of the world.
