An Afternoon of Geosciences at “Fête de la Science” in Nice, France

Public Event

Given the MPE2013 initiative and the role of mathematics in the Earth Sciences research program at the Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur (OCA), a full “Afternoon of Geosciences” will be organized during the “Fête de la Science” on Saturday, October 12, 2013.

The “Fête de la Science” is an annual event, which lasts five days and attracts one million visitors nationwide. In Nice, in the south of France, local branches of national laboratories collaborate with the University to set up a temporary “Village of Sciences” on the magnificent Château de Valrose campus. This village will offer a venue for interactive demonstrations, posters, discussions, lectures and debates.

The MPE2013 afternoon will include a series of talks devoted to

  • the role of inverse problems in understanding the interior of the Earth and its exchanges with the exterior environment;
  • the study of natural hazards by rupture processes or by impacts;
  • the use of geometry in the geosciences.

Designed for the general public, the program is expected to be one of the major attractions of the day on the campus.

Program:
