The 2013 SIAM Conference on Mathematical and Computational Issues in the Geosciences will be held in Padua, Italy, June 17-20. The meeting is organized by the SIAM Activity Group on Geoscience and provides an interactive environment where modelers concerned with problems of the geosciences can share their issues with algorithm developers, applied mathematicians, numerical analysts, and other scientists. Topics of interest include flow in porous media, multiphase flows, phase separation, wave propagation, combustion, channel flows, global and regional climate modeling, reactive flows, atmospheric circulation, and geomechanics.
The SIAM Conference on Mathematical and Computational Issues in the Geosciences is a biennial event which takes place alternatively in the U.S. and Europe. It’s the first time this event is held in Italy. Padua (or Padova, as the Italians call it) is a medieval town located about 20 km West of Venice. The Conference will be held at the Centro Congressi Padova “A. Luciani.” Co-Chairs of the Organizing Committee are Michel Kern (INRIA and Maison de la Simulation, France) and Mario Putti (Department of Mathematics, University of Padova, Italy).
The program features six invited lectures, two special Award Lectures, 90 minisymposia and 18 contributed paper sessions.
Invited lectures:
- Todd Arbogast, University of Texas at Austin (USA), “Approximation of Transport Processes Using Eulerian-Lagrangian Techniques”
- Peter Bastian, Heidelberg University (Germany), “Efficient Numerical Computation of Multi-Phase Flow in Porous Media”
