As we enter the new year, SIAM — along with more than one hundred universities, research institutes, and other scientific organizations —is thrilled to be a part of Mathematics of Planet Earth 2013. It is an exciting year-long program dedicated to examining just what mathematics can teach us about the world’s most pressing challenges, whether it’s creating stronger and lighter materials, modeling epidemics, or better understanding extreme climate change. And the kickoff is just around the corner, at the Joint Math Meetings in San Diego later this month. This MPE13 blog will feature many researchers interacting and engaging with the public and the scientific community as MPE13 explores the world around us. So be sure to visit the blog all year and collaborate on it for your up-to-the-minute dose of exciting world-changing mathematics.
